Description
Shared values only matter when they shape what happens every day.
Many baby room teams have values.
They might be written into a nursery ethos, displayed on a wall or agreed together as part of a team development day.
Joy. Belonging. Respect. Curiosity. Love.
They sound important. They feel important.
But what does it actually mean to live them?
What does joy look like during a busy lunchtime? What does belonging feel like for an educator arriving for a difficult day? How might a baby experience respect during a care routine? What does partnership with families ask of us when we don’t immediately agree?
Because values become meaningful when they move beyond words and start shaping the small, everyday moments of baby room life.
Living Our Shared Values has been created to help your team make that happen.
Designed as a complete, ready-to-run 75-minute team workshop, this facilitation pack helps your baby room team take three of your shared values and explore what they really mean in practice – for educators, babies and families.
Together, you’ll explore what your values look, sound and feel like, notice where they’re already alive in your baby room, put them to the test when everyday life becomes more complicated, and agree practical ways to keep living them together.
What’s Included
Everything you need to run the workshop is ready for you:
Facilitator Guide – your step-by-step guide to preparing for, running and following up the workshop, with timings, prompts and practical facilitator tips throughout.
Workshop PowerPoint – a ready-to-use presentation that takes your team through each stage of the 75-minute session.
Living Our Values Canvas – print one copy for each of the three values you’re exploring and capture what each value looks and sounds like, what it feels like for educators, babies and families, and where it’s already alive in your baby room.
Baby Room Moments – six relatable situations where different needs and priorities compete for attention. Use your shared values to explore what matters most and how you want to respond.
Keeping Our Values Alive Canvas – use KEEP / START / STOP to turn your discussion into up to five small, everyday commitments for your team.

START HERE Guide – a quick overview showing you exactly what is included, what to prepare and how everything fits together.
Why This Workshop Is Different
This isn’t a workshop about creating a beautifully worded values statement.
And it isn’t about deciding whether your team is successfully ‘living up to’ its values.
Instead, it helps you get curious about what your values actually mean in the reality of your baby room.
If one of your values is belonging, what might you see and hear when belonging is really alive?
If you value curiosity, where can you already spot it in the experiences you create for babies?
If calm matters to you, what happens to that value on a morning when it feels as though every baby needs something at once?
There aren’t perfect answers.
The important thing is having the conversation together – because the more specific you become about what your values mean, the more useful those values become.
From Words to Everyday Life
One of the most powerful parts of this workshop is recognising that you are probably already living your values in hundreds of small ways.
A baby being given time to respond.
An educator making a colleague laugh.
A family being welcomed warmly at the end of the day.
A messy activity that is allowed to continue because the babies are completely absorbed.
A team rearranging themselves because one baby really needs their familiar person.
These moments matter.
During the workshop, you’ll notice and celebrate what’s already happening before exploring what your values might ask of you when things become more difficult.
You’ll then use KEEP / START / STOP to decide together what you want to hold onto, what you want to introduce and what might be getting in the way.
From there, you’ll agree up to five everyday commitments for keeping your values alive and well.
Designed to Keep Working After the Workshop
The conversation doesn’t have to end when the 75 minutes are over.
Your completed canvases give you something tangible to return to, while the Team Conversation Cards make it easy – and fun – to keep engaging with your values.
Pull out a card at a team meeting and ask:
What have you done in the last 10 minutes that connects with one of our values?
Find an object in the room that represents one of our values. What’s the connection?
Who is the champion of one of our values – and what do they do that earns them the crown?
Small conversations like these help values stay visible, relevant and connected to real baby room life.
Perfect For…
Living Our Shared Values is ideal for:
- baby room teams that have already identified their shared values
- teams who have completed the Creating Our Shared Vision workshop
- nursery managers wanting values to become more visible in everyday practice
- baby room leaders developing a reflective and connected team culture
- staff meetings, team development sessions and inset days
- teams revisiting nursery or organisational values
- settings looking to connect their ethos more closely with babies’ everyday experiences
- teams who want their values to become something they use, rather than simply something they display
Because Values Are Something We Live
Your values won’t be brought to life through a poster on the wall.
They live in the way an educator responds when a baby reaches for them.
In how colleagues support one another on a difficult day.
In the conversations you have with families.
In the experiences you protect when babies are deeply absorbed.
And in the decisions you make when there is no perfect answer and several things matter at once.
Living Our Shared Values gives your team the space and tools to explore those moments together – turning the values that matter to you into something that can be seen, felt and experienced throughout your baby room.
Because your values aren’t just words you’ve chosen. They’re something you create together, every day.
